The Mayr cure is a naturopathic method for colon cleansing, which should also facilitate weight loss. How the cure works and what it brings you will find out here!
What is the Mayr cure?
The Mayr cure (named after its inventor Franz Xaver Mayr or simply FX Mayr) is a naturopathic fasting method for intestinal cleansing and purification of the human organism. Many patients use it as a diet to lose weight. The Mayr cure should best be performed under medical supervision.
How does the Mayr cure work?
There are three phases of the Mayr cure, all of which require a lot of discipline:
- milk diet
- Mild diet (“diet of deduction”)
1. Fasting with tea
In the first one to two weeks of Mayr cure you feed on water and herbal tea, so it is a strict form of healing fasting. Those who do not want to stop hunger may at least take some vegetable broth at lunchtime.
2. Milk diet
The milk diet, scheduled for week three through week six, is probably the best-known phase of the Mayr cure. It is also named under the name Semmel- Milch- Kur. After getting up, you drink about a quarter of a liter of warm water during the diet on an empty stomach, in which a teaspoon of Epsom salt is mixed. After that, experts advise to exercise lightly, for example, to walk 30 minutes of tight walking.
Then the breakfast is on the program, to which the Semmel milk cure owes its name: There is a stale bread roll (usually white flour or spelled), which should be chewed well and slowly. For this, spoonful milk is drunk. The lunch also consists of rolls and milk, in the evening only tea may be drunk – also spoonful.
3. The mild diet
From about week six starts with the so-called derivation diet the last phase of the Mayr cure. Now light food is on the menu. These include ripe fruit, a lot of cooked and steamed vegetables (hardly any raw food), fat and salt. Unlike recommended by the German Society of Nutrition, wholegrain products should be avoided altogether during the Mayr cure.
Does the Mayr cure really help?
Since the Mayr cure was developed as a holistic health concept, rapid weight loss is only one of several positive effects. Extensive chewing, for example, stimulates digestion. Toxic substances should be flushed out of the body through the conscious diet, thereby purifying the blood and rehabilitating the intestines. Studies also show that the diet can improve the immune system.
Advantages of the diet
- Several positive health effects
- Safe under medical supervision
- A lot of protein through the Semmel-Milch-Kur – that reduces the risk of the JoJo effect
Disadvantages of the Mayr cure
- Many disciplines needed
- High costs for inpatient treatment
- Only applicable in the short term
So that the kilos lost by the Mayr cure do not come back anyway, a subsequent change in diet should consist of a lot of fruits and vegetables, lean meat, whole grain, and dairy products.
