Smartphone or PC? Which device or browser you use when booking, decides how much your holiday costs.
Not only the time counts
If we book on a Saturday, the ticket costs to Rome 109 euros, a day later suddenly only 89 euros. How can that be?
It has been known for some time that the time and even the time when we book our holiday can play a major role in the price. Unfortunately, for holidaymakers * is completely intransparent, how the tour operators their prices – and when these go up or down.
PC or iPad? The terminal also determines the holiday price
All the more valuable is this realization: Even the terminal and the browser with which we book tickets and hotel rooms have an influence on the price! A study by the Austrian Chamber of Labor has shown that tariffs vary, depending on whether we book our holiday via PC, laptop, notebook, smartphone, iPhone or iPad.
For the study, the organization conducted 30 price queries on booking.com, lufthansa.com, fluege.de, opodo.com and austrian.com six days a month at the same time.
Especially with travel portals there are price differences
The result: Especially with the travel portals, there were price differences depending on the device. A hotel in Verona was ten percent more expensive for PC, notebook and laptop users than for smartphone, iPhone and iPad users. And the flight to Paris was on opodo.com with the smartphone and iPhone more expensive than on PC, iPad and notebook.
In addition, Opodo a different price increase has been determined depending on the terminal over time. Thus, the flight to Paris in the query via PC or notebook has increased over time by 26 percent, on smartphone only by 25 percent.
Our tip: Just before booking on all available devices compare prices!
The browser also plays a role
The browser can also affect the price. Because he remembers with the help of “cookies” – small text files – that one plans a trip for a certain period at a certain place. If you are looking for offers for hours or even days, you are very interested. The browser remembers that – and the prices are already rising.
