Itinerary Sweden Location tour
Day 1: Arrival
Flight to Jönköping or Örebro. Reception by your German-speaking travel guide and transfer to your hotel, which is located east of Lake Vättern.
Day 2: Excursion “In the footsteps of Inga Lindström”; Sörmland – Trosa – Mariefred
The first excursion takes you through picturesque landscapes to Sörmland, which we know from a variety of films. Above all, the idyllic village Trosa has served numerous stories as a backdrop. The center with the bright yellow city hotel, the small red town hall with its dainty white bell tower and also the narrow canal, which meanders through the place, you have already admired in many radiations. Take a walk along the water and go in search of the Inga Lindström films.
Furthermore, the picturesque Mariefred awaits you with its numerous old wooden houses and typical cobblestone streets. This place was more than loved by the famous writer Kurt Tucholsky. His famous work Gripsholm was written down here. Opportunity to visit Gripsholm Castle (optional) with the largest collection of paintings in the country. At the end of the day, we will take you to a very special castle, the so-called cake castle, where you can choose from a huge selection of cakes (optional).
Day 3: Excursion “Sweden’s archipelago”; Östergotland – Arkösund – Söderköping
Today you start for a trip to the archipelago world. The archipelago of Östergötland is known for its many nature reserves including countless islands and bays. In Arkösund you are very close to the archipelago. On the islands of the inner archipelago you can often see cows or sheep grazing and with a bit of luck you can watch the mighty white-tailed eagle.
The journey continues to Söderköping, one of the most beautiful small towns in Sweden. A real idyll awaits you with its old wooden houses, the canals and the beautiful Trinity Church “Drothems kyrka”. In addition, it is said that Sweden’s best ice cream parlor can be found here.
Day 4: Leisure or excursion “The capital Stockholm”
For example, you can use the time for a bike ride or you can go on an excursion (optional bookable) to Stockholm: where the Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea, lies the Swedish capital Stockholm, the surrounded by water and whose neighborhoods are connected by about 60 bridges. The metropolis also bears the name “beauty on water”.
Experience the unique blend of Swedish tradition and trendy, cosmopolitan atmosphere. You start with a city tour and see, inter alia, the Royal Palace, the Storkyrkan, Slussen (lock system), the opera, the National Museum, the museum island Skansen uvm then you have free time to visit eg the worth seeing Vasa Museum.
Day 5: Excursion “The Pearls at Lake Vättern”; Gränna – Rök – Vadstena
Today is all about Lake Vättern. The second largest lake in the country awaits you first in Gränna, where you can look over the famous candy cane bakers. Afterwards you will visit the rune stone of Rök. The stone has a height of 3.82 meters and carries a runic inscription in the Old Norse language. With around 750 characters it is the longest known runic script.
Afterwards you will arrive in Vadstena. It was here that the monastery of St. Birgitta was founded in the 14th century. Its impressive Gothic church was considered to be the largest pilgrimage site of the Middle Ages and today it is the center of Swedish Catholicism.
Day 6: Excursion “Småland – home of Astrid Lindgren”; Eksjö – Vimmerby – Västervik
Today you will discover the romantic landscapes of Småland. Your first destination is Eksjö, a unique wooden town with winding streets and centuries-old buildings that tell about the interesting history of the city. Then you come to Vimmerby, home of Astrid Lindgren. You have the opportunity to visit the Astrid Lindgrens Näs museum (optional). Continue to Västervik, a “Pearl of the East Coast” with its beautiful little fishermen’s houses.
Day 7: Bicycle Tour “Östergötland – Birthplace of Stockholm”; Bjälbo – Väderstad
By bike, you head west through the historic province of Östergötland. The pure ride time on the bike is about 2 hours (28km). In Bjälbo, the birthplace of Birger Jarl, the founder of Stockholm, take a first break and learn details about his life.
Continue to Väderstad, where you take a longer break. In a cozy café, you can enjoy a Swedish coffee break, the “Fika” break (surcharge). Afterwards you cycle back to Skänninge, where you can relax and let your last day of travel end with new impressions.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Jönköping or Örebro airport and return to Germany.

The hotel is located in the center of one of the oldest villages in Sweden, Skänninge. The building, which was renovated in 2016, offers modern furnished rooms whose motifs are lovingly based on themes from the history of Skänninge. Each room has a flat-screen TV, extra long beds, a seating area and a modern bathroom. The on-site restaurant serves regional cuisine.
